Roma midfielder Jordan Veretout is ‘ready to listen to offers’ this summer after being of interest to Tottenham in the January transfer window.
That’s according to Roma Today, who say the Frenchman is planning to explore his options when the summer window rolls around.
They explain that, having once commanded a starring role in Roma’s midfield, Veretout no longer holds the status he once did.
The January arrival of Sergio Oliviera has only compounded that, with it stated Veretout has ‘lost the polish’ of his best days and is no longer in Jose Mourinho’s thinking.
He’s decided to ‘shelve’ the midfielder, and that has led to a situation where he is ‘about to leave’ the club to get the playing time he wants.
The website says Veretout ‘feels the confidence of the coach and the club is lacking’ and so is ‘ready to listen’ to any offers that might come his way.
He has a ‘huge market’ too, with several clubs in Italy keen on his signature and one of them is Tottenham, with Antonio Conte and ‘admirer’.
Spurs are keen to bolster their squad for their manager and have already dipped into the Italian market to do so, signing Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski in January.
The midfield is a particular area of weakness, and Veretout could help solve that, although Roma will accept ‘no less than €25m’ for his signature.
They are happy to sell, though, to get rid of the midfielder’s €3m a year wages, funds which they could use elsewhere to get Mourinho the midfielder he’s been after since last summer.
That means a deal is there to be done for Tottenham, who may be given a second shot at this particular January target.
