Portuguese newspaper A Bola today has a story about Sporting’s approach for Palmeiras midfielder Gustavo Scarpa.
The player is seen as a possible replacement for Bruno Fernandes, who could be taken away from Lisbon in the January transfer window.
A Bola doesn’t make it clear if there’s a specific club who could buy the Lions’ captain, but there’s only one side named in the story, and that’s Tottenham Hotspur.
They recall the Premier League club tried to sign the midfielder in the summer, having offered over €65m to take him to London.
Sporting are getting themselves prepared for a Bruno bid they can’t refuse, even though there’s not a lot of speculation about it for now.
Bruno Fernandes has nine goals and six assists in 17 games for Sporting this season. His statistics continue to be very impressive, and clubs who were interested in the summer will surely be aware of that.
The Portuguese press may say Tottenham offered over €65m in the summer, but it’s worth pointing out that back in September, Sporting president Frederico Varandas explained that from this amount, €20m were bonuses dependent on Champions League and Premier League titles for Spurs.
