Tottenham are interested in a move for Bayern Munich star Serge Gnabry should he be available on a free transfer in future.
The former Arsenal forward is set to enter the final year of his deal at the Allianz Arena this summer, meaning a decision will have to be made about his future.
He’s been with Bayern since signing from Werder Bremen in 2017, a year after he had been shipped out by Arsenal.
Since then, he’s been a regular in the side, showing staggering development under different managers and has racked up 59 goals and 39 assists in 157 games for the club to date.
He remains a key player under Julian Nagelsmann, but several reports in Germany have made it clear that talks over a deal have hit the buffers.
While it’s stated that it is likely the German will sign a new deal, he is reportedly unhappy with the more defensive game he’s been asked to play since Nagelsmann’s arrival in the summer.
There is a growing concern that he could run down his deal as David Alaba did last year, and according to SportBILD, Tottenham are one of the ones hoping he does.
They report that Spurs have ‘knocked on his door’ and ‘show interest’ in the former Arsenal man as he ‘could leave on a free transfer’.
They are one of several sides keen on him, and the forward is ‘coveted on the market’ and have one advantage, Gnabry ‘likes the city of London’, presumably from his time with the Gunners.
At this moment in time, Tottenham are in the background, and the newspaper makes it clear that the atmosphere between Gnabry’s advisors is not poisoned or bad, but further talks are necessary.
He’s made it clear he doesn’t want to leave this year but could leave on a free in 2023 when his contract comes to an end.
That is something Bayern Munich was to avoid ‘at all costs’ after losing Alaba on a free, and so they’ll work to find an agreement on his contract.
The problem is that Gnabry wants to be among the top earners and pick up between €15-20m a year, similar to what Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman are earning.
Bayern are seemingly not willing to pay that, and whether Tottenham would isn’t mentioned, but it seems they’re keeping an eye on the situation regardless.
