Monday brought claims of a huge late approach from Liverpool for Thomas Lemar, which was then hyped up further by France’s Le10 Sport.

Tottenham were thrown into the mix, with the idea that Spurs could swoop in and beat the Reds at the final hurdle, taking Lemar to Mauricio Pochettino instead.

A string of Premier League clubs have been linked with Lemar this summer, as the drip of rumour leaks from France rivals any other year, albeit with less reliability, and Tottenham were an obvious pick.

Tuesday’s edition of L’Equipe reckons there’s something in it, although they don’t talk it up to sound imminent and especially concrete. It’s stated that Tottenham have already ‘taken the temperature’ of a possible Lemar transfer this summer, and they join the group of clubs keen on a transfer.

Lemar would be a huge late signing for Tottenham or anyone else, and almost certainly overpriced given the stage of the market and AS Monaco’s unwillingness to sell the player.

Could Tottenham swoop and knock all other offers aside? It’s probably unlikely, but the possibility will certainly add to end-of-window excitement.
