The Italian habit to sign players on loan with an obligation to make the move permanent a year later has grown in recent years.

It allows clubs to kick the issue of counting a transfer fee on accounts until a year later. Now it’s creeping into English football, and it’s no surprise Fabio Paratici is looking to do this type of deal at Tottenham Hotspur.

Centotrentuno, a website with specialises in all that’s going at Cagliari, reports Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have moved into the picture to sign Nahitan Nandez.

The Uruguayan was linked to Leeds United earlier this year, before it became clear that a move to Inter Milan was likelier. Nandez has become so frustrated with Cagliari, for their refusal to drop their valuation (around €36m), that he recently failed to show up for a flight taking the squad to Spain for a friendly.

That prompted a big reaction and much criticism, but Nandez continues to stay away and is training at home.

According to the report, Tottenham ‘intend to present a loan offer’ which would have a ‘clear redemption obligation’, however the figures involved would be less than what Inter have proposed.

Of course, there’s a chance Tottenham have been dragged in to pressure Inter Milan, and it’s worth noting this information has clearly come from a Cagliari leak.
