Tottenham have initiated contact to sign Rayan Cherki from Lyon this summer, alongside Liverpool and Manchester City.

That’s according to Le Parisien, who report that the pathway could be left clear by Paris Saint-Germain, who appear to remain uninterested in signing him.

The newspaper explains that Cherki will not lack for opportunities this summer after an impressive season with Lyon.

Germany remains a plausible destination for him, but it is mainly in England where the interest is ‘most serious’. According to the newspaper’s information, Tottenham have already sat at the table and are ‘taking information’ on the player. They’ve been joined by Liverpool and Manchester City in doing so.

And their path to the player is unlikely to be blocked by Paris Saint Germain, who have decided to ‘stay behind’ in the potential race.

They’ve been locked in something of a soap opera with Cherki for a while and he was happy to kick start it again this week when asked if he would feel good in a locker room alongside the likes of Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Barcola.

Cherki was wanted by PSG last summer but everything on the deal went bad and the French giants eventually went ‘mad with rage’ over the failed transfer.

Cherki eventually extended with Lyon to 2026, but a sale is looking likely this summer. PSG, though, don’t intend to re-launch that particular effort. They’re still burned from last summer and relationships are not good.

That leaves the path clear for Tottenham, as well as Liverpool and Manchester City, to make their move without a Champions League finalist to compete against.
