Tottenham in picture for signing – Club keen to ‘avert’ player’s ‘immediate departure’

On December 28th, we covered claims made by Gazzetta dello Sport that Tottenham Hotspur admire Mattias Svanberg and the situation has caused concerns for Bologna.

The 22-year-old has 18 months left on his contract and his performances for the Serie A side have seen his suitor list grow in recent times.

His fine displays for Bologna ‘strengthen the appreciation’ of AC Milan and Inter Milan. This is according to Calciomercato, who explain the midfielder has been in the Rossoneri’s thoughts for more than a year.

Apart from the two Milan rivals, the Sweden international is also appreciated outside Serie A. This is when the north London club get a mention as the report states Antonio Conte’s side are ‘starting to get information’ about the player.

Svanberg’s representative Martin Dahlin is expected to arrive in the country and the agent’s next trip to Italy will be ‘very useful to shed light’ on his client’s future plans and also if he has received any proposals for the Swede.

Bologna want to reach an agreement for a new contract until 2025, perhaps with the promise of a sale next summer for a fixed price.

If this happens, then Svanberg’s ‘immediate departure would be averted. Otherwise, Serie A risks losing’ one of their quality players, despite the interest shown by Milan and Inter.
