Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Palmeiras’ Richard Ríos in the winter market, according to Area Napoli.
The Brazil international was a regular for Palmeiras last year, making 49 appearances in all competitions, and missed 11 games due to his participation in the Copa América last summer.
Ríos’ performances have caught the attention of Tottenham, Napoli and other European clubs.
Area Napoli make it clear it’s their own information about Spurs’ interest in the defensive midfielder as they are looking to strengthen that position in this window.
It’s stated Tottenham have identified the Colombia international as a ‘concrete target’ and made an ‘official offer’ to buy him immediately, without mentioning the details of their bid.
The report states the Brazilian club have rejected Spurs’ proposal because they want to retain the player until the summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.
He’s likely to remain at Palmeiras until the end of this season and if that were to happen, the Serie A side could evaluate signing Ríos in the summer.
On Monday, RTI Esporte reported Palmeiras will only let Ríos leave in January if his €100m release clause is activated. That claim was in relation to Wolves interest, and it felt like Palmeiras were bluffing and would almost certainly accept much less.
