Vincent Janssen is the new blue eyed boy of Dutch football, a hero the whole country can get behind, but against Sweden on Tuesday night he was unable to get the ball into the back of the net.

The Netherlands were superior to Sweden, although perhaps not as superior as the subsequent Dutch reporting would suggest, and were unlucky to have a late Bas Dost ‘winner’ ruled out by the match officials.

Tottenham striker Janssen was unhappy after the match and made several comments to the media. He said his Netherlands team were three classes better than Sweden, but also explained how dejected the Dutch team were after the match.

Voetbal Zone quote the Spurs ace as saying: “This actually feels like a defeat. We were the whole game better and had the best chances. We sat with our heads down in the dressing room, but we can be satisfied with the game.”

Janssen feels the disallowed goal was a further kick in the teeth, and Mauricio Pochettino and his staff will have to cheer up the 22 year old.
