Christian Eriksen has been an important part of the Denmark set-up for some time, but now he seems to be graduating from a position of huge talent with unrealistic expectations placed upon him to a more comfortable international footballer who is content with his status in the squad.

Earlier this year the Tottenham player spoke to the Danish media and criticised the professionalism of the national set-up, it simply wasn’t what he’d become used to with Spurs. Eriksen wasn’t the only player to be speak out, with other senior figures complaining, and it led to a promise of improvement from those in charge of Danish football.

The Tottenham star was only really able to speak out after a good year for Denmark, at least for Eriksen personally. The team are yet again struggling to qualify for the next big tournament, although Eriksen hasn’t given up on the World Cup.

Quoted by Ekstra Bladet, Eriksen explained: “I still think there is plenty to play for. And with the teams that are in the group, and as we’ve already met, I do not see why we should lose to them again.

“Now we know who we’re meeting. And with this starting point we have, I see no reason to believe we’re not going to the World Cup.”

Previously Eriksen had said Denmark faced such a task ahead of them they needed to win every remaining qualifier to get to Russia. It sounds like Tottenham’s good period is giving Eriksen general optimism: “With the position we have in the league, we are comfortable. It rubs off on your mood and your game. Especially when you can score some goals and be a little decisive.”
