Salzburger Nachrichten explained this week that there are worries surrounding several players in the Austrian squad, indeed a good few. The issue is to do with fitness, form, and getting on the pitch.
Tottenham’s Kevin Wimmer was named in the ‘benchwarmers’ section, but at times this season he’s been fortunate to find himself there. Turning 24 years of age in November, Wimmer really needs to be kicking on sometime soon and at Spurs it seems he’s going backwards.
Mauricio Pochettino believed Wimmer needed more work on his fitness as the season started and then there was a muscle injury, say Austria’s Laola 1, but the defender is now further down the pecking order than he was last season.
Laola believe the player ‘cannot be satisfied’ with his career to date at Tottenham Hotspur, and how Pochettino seems happy to pick others ahead of him. They’d never heard of Cameron Carter-Vickers and so it’s a surprise that the 18 year old may now have pushed ahead of the Austrian international.
Wimmer remains in the Austrian squad, perhaps through default, and it may be a better chance of him getting football.
