Tottenham’s inability to spend as much as bigger clubs could force Antonio Conte to look elsewhere if the opportunity arises.
That’s according to La Repubblica, who cover the manager’s future today amid growing rumours about a return to Juventus.
The newspaper says that there is no doubt that Conte is enjoying the moment at Tottenham given that his side are ‘playing very well, winning, scoring a lot and keeping up’ with the likes of Manchester City.
They, though, are ‘immeasurably richer’ than his side and it is because of this reason that Conte is hesitating about his future at Tottenham.
He believes the club’s ‘growth margins’ are limited because they don’t have the ability or willingness to spend like City, or even Chelsea.
Daniel Levy is also considered a slight problem as he loves to ‘conduct savings buying campaigns’ and so Conte will never truly have the ‘super players’ he asks for.
He will instead be forced to value younger players who can be developed like Richarlison and Kulusevski, who are good but not at the same level as someone like Erling Haaland.
Conte is also a manager who is never satisfied, having left Juventus and Inter when he wasn’t backed as he wanted to be financially.
He is also a manager who gets itchy feet after two years and it could be the same with Tottenham.
In fact, according to the newspaper, many of his friends in Turin are convinced he will leave Tottenham at the end of the season because winning there is historically difficult.
Whether he returns to Juventus is another matter. He would have run to the club in the past, but things have changed since his time there. Juventus’ desperation could resolve the issues that have arisen in the years since.
There is a belief that Conte would be tempted, though, so long as the club could offer him at least €10m a year and an economic effort on the transfer market.
It’s a situation that will develop over the coming months, but there is a growing feeling in Italy that Tottenham may be wise to start looking for a replacement.
