Brought in to be Mauricio Pochettino’s third goalkeeper at Tottenham, Pau Lopez never made an appearance for the club’s first team, conceding eight goals in seven appearances for their reserves instead.
Claims that Spurs would like to see him stay longer have since surfaced, but it appears Daniel Levy is reluctant to spend the pre-agreed €7m on the goalkeeper, offering less than half of that instead.
Under contract at White Hart Lane until the end of the month, the player took to Onda Cero, relayed by AS, to clarify what was going on, and Lopez seems to be happy with anything, really.
He said: “We’ll see what happens. The clubs are talking and I can’t say anything. Espanyol is my home. It’s the club that I love, that I’ll always have in my heart, and whatever happens, I’ll be happy.
“At the end of the day, it’s my home, where people like me and appreciate me, and it will always be my home.”
Considering the young goalkeeper was a regular for Espanyol before taking the decision to go to Tottenham, somewhere where he can play first-team football seems better suited for the 22-year-old at this stage in his career.
Not sure he’ll be all that happy of spending another season watching Hugo Lloris from the bench or the stands.
