Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Sporting midfielder João Palhinha can once again be seen in the Portuguese media today, this time in a story from newspaper O Jogo.
The outlet features a piece where they start by covering recent claims from the English press which say the player is currently on Spurs’ ‘radar’, writing that the London side are ‘in the front row’ to sign him.
O Jogo then has a little to say about Palhinha’s situation at Sporting, pointing out that the player should indeed leave the club at the end of the season.
It had always been Sporting’s plan to cash in with the midfielder’s departure this summer, and the only change now is that they won’t make as much money as expected.
O Jogo points out the Tottenham target didn’t have a very regular season as he couldn’t get all the playing time he wanted.
That left him out of the national team, and obviously dropped his market valuation.
That’s why Sporting are now set to change the demands for him. It’s said that the Lions used to demand at least €35m or €40m for his transfer, and it’s now ‘unlikely’ they could get that much this time.
So if Tottenham are indeed willing to sign him this summer, this sounds like a great option for Fabio Paratici to find a good deal for Antonio Conte.
