While Tottenham aren’t known as regular when it comes to plucking talent from under Barcelona’s noses as their North London neighbours Arsenal, that doesn’t mean they don’t hold some interest in what goes on at La Masia.
Back in December, Tottenham and Chelsea were claimed by Sport as being interested in signing Marc Cucurella, more commonly known as Cucu, whose contract at Barcelona runs out in June of this year.
Free to talk to clubs in January, a follow-up article was published in February by Sport reporting that no contract renewal had reached the Spurs target, leading to more concern about his long-term future at the La Liga champions.
Fast forward to the end of March, and now it’s Mundo Deportivo’s term to voice their information on the matter, stating that while a new deal hadn’t been offered, keeping hold of Cucu was now an ‘urgent situation’ for the Spanish giants.
Mauricio Pochettino is still said to be a fan of the 18-year-old left-back, and is joined by Manchester City and Everton as the Premier League clubs interested in the young defender’s services.
However, they will have to wait and see whether Cucurella accepts Barcelona’s incoming contract offer, as the Juvenil A squad member prioritises a stay at his current club over moving abroad.
Of course, were a superior offer to land on the desk of whoever represents him, he might be inclined to change his mind…
