A couple of days ago, we covered claims from French daily L’Equipe that Tottenham have offered Chateauroux’s Jean-Philippe Mateta a four-year contract.

The young French striker recently scored a hat-trick in a Coupe de la Ligue match against Le Havre, and Ligue 1 side Montpellier are also reportedly keen on signing him.

Mateta’s agent, Franck Belhassen, has been speaking to French website Foot Mercato, and it seems the player is not too keen on moving abroad just yet.

He said: “On the one hand there’s what Jerome Leroy is saying and on the other hand what we’re actually doing. Concerning Tottenham, it is quite clear that the player doesn’t want to go abroad.

“He’s 19, and doesn’t want to skip steps. Only a few players have succeeded abroad at such a young age. He is a very sensible boy and well looked after by his family.

“He knows what he wants to do. And Tottenham probably have other fish to fry with five days left of the window.”

Belhassen seems to have made it quite clear that his client is going to stay in France and continue his development.
