Wanting a new centre-back when he was in charge at Tottenham, José Mourinho was given Joe Rodon from Swansea City.

It seems unlikely the Welshman was number one on the Portuguese’s wishlist, and with Toby Alderweireld heading towards the back end of his career and Davinson Sánchez failing to impress of late, a new body could be needed at the heart of the defence.

Now that Fabio Paratici has been appointed at the helm of the transfer ship in north London, many names have circulated, and a new one to add to the list is Cristian Romero.

The Juventus centre-back is currently on a two year loan at Atalanta, who are expected to make the move permanent this summer by triggering the €16m option in the deal, and it appears the Italian director of football, who brought him to Turin in the first place, wants to buy him again.

At least, that’s what L’Eco Di Bergamo hint at on Thursday, claiming Spurs have their ‘eyes open’ when it comes to Romero, and while they don’t mention Paratici, we all know he’ll be behind it.

Juventus bought the Argentine from Genoa for £23.4m in 2019 just one year after they had purchased him from Belgrano for £3.8m.

That shows how highly Paratici rated him at the time, and explains why he wouldn’t mind him at Spurs now.
