Schalke having finally got themselves into a mild panic over the future of Sead Kolasinac. The panic is a little overdue, given the left back’s contract ends in June and from January onward he could sign a pre-contract agreement elsewhere, before moving on a free transfer in the summer.
Kolasinac has been part of Schalke’s recent revival, playing well in a 3-5-2 and impressing whilst going forward. Contract negotiations haven’t yet started, according to German newspaper Bild, but the player’s agent has been contacted by Schalke.
The good form and contract talk comes less than a week after Kolasinac was linked to several English clubs. German magazine Kicker claimed all of Tottenham, Everton and Stoke City had the player on their lists.
For Tottenham it didn’t make a great deal of sense, given the left back options Mauricio Pochettino already has, and Everton aren’t too bad there either, but perhaps Ronald Koeman fancies a new option.
Stoke City were a new name brought into the equation, and unless Schalke get a move on, Mark Hughes’ men won’t be the last. Kolasinac is potentially one of the best free transfers of next summer, and the longer there’s no renewal the more likely a transfer will look.
