Stagnating in the depths of Serie A’s mid table for some years now, the great force that once was AC Milan is slowly but surely coming back to life with a new generation of young talents.
Currently sixth in Serie A with 13 points from their first seven games, Vincenzo Montella’s reliance on young players has excited a lot of the Italian press, but there’s also a feeling putting them in the shop window so soon could backfire.
Some of the other, lesser known youngsters, who could be close to making a first team appearance in the near future, have also been tied down for fear of temptations luring them away from the San Siro.
One of these happens to be 18-year-old Niccolò Zanellato, who was the subject of an approach from Everton back in September.
The youngster committed to AC Milan until 2019 half way through last month, but Corriere dello Sport report there was more than just Ronald Koeman’s interest over the window.
The Italian newspaper reveal the midfielder was ‘dangerously’ in Tottenham’s line of sight, meaning you can near guarantee the player is on Mauricio Pochettino’s list of ‘players to watch’ over the coming season.
Highly regarded by Vincenzo Montella, the club’s trust in the youngster is such that an appearance for the first team by the end of the season wouldn’t be a surprise in the slightest.
