If you read the front page of Friday’s edition of Sport and didn’t check the inside article then you’d be forgiven for thinking Tottenham have made a €50m offer to sign Malcom in the January transfer window.

Inside, the story explains Tottenham are willing to pay a high fee, but it doesn’t claim an offered has yet been made by Spurs or received by Barcelona.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were strongly linked with the former Bordeaux player in both of the past two transfer windows, so it’s no surprise to see them thrown in again now he’s struggling to get any game time at Barcelona.

As well as their newspaper article, Sport have now released a video and they explain Tottenham are the club most committed and are willing to build a package which would see Barca make a profit on what they paid in the summer.

Given the Catalan club parted with €40m plus bonuses, the figure would be approaching €50m… and that seems to be the inspiration behind that figure gaining a foothold.

So are Tottenham really interested?

It would make sense if there’s still an admiration there, but Spurs signed Lucas Moura in January after failing to get Malcom so that particular itch may have been scratched. Should Erik Lamela or someone else be leaving then Malcom would come into the picture again.

The idea of Tottenham giving Barca a quick profit on a transfer which hasn’t worked out doesn’t sound very Spursy.
