Tottenham could sign Lucas Bergvall this summer and immediately send him out on loan, with Borussia Monchengladbach in the market for such a deal.
That’s at least according to Gladbach Live, who look at potential options for the German side today and name the Tottenham man as one of them.
The newspaper explains that the Bundesliga side turned their team around last summer after big departures, by working smart in the market and they want to repeat that. Funds are tight, though, so loan deals could be the course of action.
This is something sporting director Roland Virkus has already hinted at, recently admitting his plans in an interview with Rheinische Post.
“Loans can also be an issue in the summer,” he said.
“This means you can sign up for higher quality at a comparatively low cost. We are of course also looking at markets like England.”
That could lead them to looking at Tottenham and particularly Lucas Bergvall, who is set to arrive from Sweden in the summer.
He’s considered one of his country’s greatest talents and is joining Spurs for €10m this summer but what his role under Ange Postecoglou will be remains to be seen.
On the face of it he seems an ill fit for a role in the centre of Tottenham’s midfield given the players Postecoglou has used there this season and Gladbach Live admit it ‘wouldn’t be a big surprise’ if he was loaned out to continue his development elsewhere.
He’s already a feature in the Sweden national team and the belief is he would ‘provide new impetus’ to Borussia’s midfield.
There’s also logic to it on a physical stance, as the step up to the Bundesliga would be easier than going straight to England. In other words, Bergvall could move to Germany, develop, and then be better prepared to move to the Premier League.
It all depends on Tottenham and the decision they make with Bergvall this summer, but Gladbach would seemingly be keen if the opportunity arises.
