Back in October, a strange story appeared in Sport regarding the future of Real Madrid’s Isco, who had questioned his future at the Spanish giants during an international break, with Tottenham said to be interested.
The Catalan newspaper suggested Daniel Levy was ready to pay €45m for the attacking midfielder, something we questioned due to the details surrounding his situation.
With his current contract ending in 2018, and considering the Tottenham chairman has never spent more than £30m in the summer let alone January on a player, such a fee seemed a far cry from what normally goes on at White Hart Lane.
Signing someone of Isco’s reputation would certainly be seen as a coup for the London club, and, playing 90 minutes for the first time since the end of October at the weekend, the Spanish midfielder once again discussed his future, hinting this season could be his last at the Bernabeú if he didn’t get more time on the pitch soon.
According to Marca on Tuesday, the player would prefer a move to England for ‘sporting and finiancial reasons’ over remaining in Spain or going to Italy, and Tottenham could be a great place for him to relaunch his stagnating career.
Plus, with more money available in the summer than in January, and hopefully Champions League football on offer once again, Spurs have a far better chance of getting a deal done than they did back in October.
Manchester City and Chelsea are also said to be keen on the Spaniard, but with the options both those clubs have at their disposal, you would think White Hart Lane would be his best chance to get regular football.
Having Isco, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen behind Harry Kane certainly seems like an enticing combination, don’t you think?
