Tottenham have been in contact with Benfica about a move for midfielder Pizzi but are yet to make any official bid.

Spurs are expected to undergo something of an overhaul this summer, with José Mourinho keen to remould the squad he inherited from Mauricio Pochettino in his own image.

Pierre Emerick Höjbjerg has already arrived from Southampton, but there could be further changes in central midfield, particularly if Inter Milan turn their interest in Tanguy Ndombele into something more serious.

And according to A Bola, one player on their list of potential recruits is Benfica’s Pizzi, who could be available for €20m according to reports in the Portuguese media.

Those reports were picked up on by Tottenham, and particularly Mourinho, who came forward and made contact with Benfica about a move.

That was only to ‘know the conditions’ of the player, though, as opposed to a firm bid or anything of that nature. In other words, they wanted to know how much a transfer would cost and, potentially, what the player’s demands would be.

The newspaper states that ‘there is no information regarding any development’ beyond that, but it would not be surprising to see this rumour gaining traction in the coming weeks as the transfer window really ramps up.
