Cristian Romero arrived at Tottenham Hotspur in August, just days after the north London club sanctioned Toby Alderweireld’s exit.

The Argentine is among the four centre-backs [excluding Eric Dier] at Nuno Espírito Santo’s disposal, but that’s not stopped them from looking at another player in the same position.

According to Calciomercato, Spurs ‘like’ Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Matthias Ginter.

It’s claimed there will be a battle for the Germany international’s signature since Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also keen on him.

The defender’s future with the Bundesliga side remains uncertain as his contract runs down in 2022. That’s the only information the report mentions about the 27-year-old.

Tottenham considered signing the centre-back in the summer. Bild reported in June that Spurs’ interest in Ginter is ‘on record’, but the English club didn’t make an approach for the player and ended up signing Romero.

If Ginter is available on a free transfer next summer, Spurs could be in the mix for his signing.
