On Sunday, Marca reported Sergio Reguilón and Giovani Lo Celso are expected to leave Tottenham Hotspur after Antonio Conte left them out of his squad for the trip to South Korea.
It was also stated the left-back has tasked his agent to find a new club, while Villarreal intend to sign the Argentine.
Lo Celso spent the second half the previous campaign on loan with Unai Emery’s side and his displays have been enough to make him their priority target.
That’s according to Sunday’s El Periódico Mediterráneo, who add Spurs have identified Pervis Estupiñán as the man who Conte wants for the left-back position.
Conte is no longer counting on Reguilón and Spurs have moved him to their transferable list. They are ‘awaiting his departure to try to hire’ the ex-Watford man. The north London club have started contacts with Estupiñán’s agent, and will move for him once they ‘find a solution’ for Reguilón.
Emery has the left-back position well covered by Alfonso Pedraza, Alberto Moreno and youngster Dani Tasende.
Therefore, letting Estupiñán leaving will not weaken Villarreal too much.
Indeed, this and Villarreal’s need to lighten their wage bill will please Tottenham, but Spurs can only make an approach for Estupiñán once they manage to offload Reguilón.
