The Andre Gomes Groundhog Day continues in the Catalan media.
Endlessly there’s claims that Gomes is much liked in the Premier League, and that it could be an option for Barcelona to sell to, and also that a return to former club Valencia is a possibility.
But nothing seems to be actually happening and it’s felt like this situation has been going on for over a year. In that time, Gomes’ stock has dropped further and it got to the point that this summer he found himself out of the Portuguese selection for the World Cup.
A brief highlight in the story came last week, when claims from England linked Arsenal with the player. Catalan newspaper Sport says ‘Tottenham and Arsenal have shown some interest’ in the midfielder.
Barcelona remain looking for an option for the player, and their asking price, whatever it may be, must have dropped significantly. Tottenham links go back over a year and throughout that time it’s never felt like Spurs were making a concrete effort.
Even if the interest from both London clubs is correct, if they don’t actually do anything about it… it’s largely irrelevant.
