Rumoured to be of interest to Manchester City, Toulouse’s Issa Diop also appears to have caught the eye of Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino and Arsenal’s Arsène Wenger.
The 20-year-old defender has been a regular for the Ligue 1 club for almost a year now, thrown in at the deep end in November 2015, and rarely missing a game since.
According to France Football on Monday, both Tottenham and Arsenal sent scouts to watch the talented youngster play against Paris Saint-Germain at the weekend.
With Toulouse picking up an impressive clean sheet, Issa Diop managed to keep a goal hungry Edinson Cavani very quiet, only allowing him two shots from inside the box, both coming from the same move.
Needless to say, both Tottenham and Arsenal scouts will have gone home happy with the player’s display, who earned high praise from L’Equipe after the game, stating everything the youngster did was done ‘with intensity and intelligence’.
In fact, seeing him turn up in the big games ‘isn’t even a surprise anymore’ for the French newspaper, who tend to be highly critical, giving the likes of Serge Aurier and Julian Draxler 3/10s for the same game.
That Diop will one day leave Toulouse isn’t a matter of if, it’s a matter of when, and it’ll be interesting to see who comes out victorious in what proves to be a heated battle for his signature when the time comes.
Tottenham? Arsenal? Manchester City? Or another league altogether?
