Tottenham Hotspur are among the ‘strongest candidates’ for Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir this summer.
That’s according to NTVSpor, who name them alongside Inter Milan and Lille as the clubs ‘most interested’ in a move for the Turkish star.
The website explains that Cakir is ‘closely followed’ by European teams ahead of the next transfer window, and he will be ‘act according to the best future offer’.
It’s explained that the keeper, who has 13 clean sheets in the Super Lig this season and has conceded just 36 goals in 38 games, is now the most valuable player in the division.
He is rated at around €16m and ‘has increasing suitors’ after his impressive performances this season.
Trabzonspor’s management are expecting a ‘high income’ from any deal but will not approve one of the ‘requested numbers’ do not come in.
They are planning for Cakir to go to the club that makes the best offer but have set a base price of €20m plus 25% on his next transfer.
The plan is to reject any offers beneath that level, and they will only ‘consider the offers’ once the goalkeeper has appeared at the European Championships with Turkey.
So far, it appears no clubs have made a move, but the ‘strongest candidates’ are Inter Milan, Tottenham and Lille, with those there the ‘most interested’ parties.
Tottenham, of course, will need to be on the hunt for a replacement for Hugo Lloris in the near future, given he will be 35 come the end of this year.
They’ve been linked to Cakir before now, with the last report in April stating that they were ‘in line’ for the goalkeeper and eyeing a €20m deal.
That is something NTV Spor are now backing up, and a deal is there to be done, although Trabzonspor Club president Ahmet Agaoglu has made his stance clear.
“He is arguably the best goalkeeper in Turkey,” he reportedly said.
“He needs to go to the best club that pays the most. No player steps out of the door of Trabzonspor Club without finding his value.”
