Tottenham have told Fluminense they have no intention of selling Richarlison in January, ruling out a return to Brazil for the striker.

That’s according to GE Globo, who report that Tottenham met with Fluminense on Friday to discuss the forward and a potential return to Brazil.

Richarlison has been heavily linked with a move back to his former club over the last week, with Brazilian sides starting to move in the market ahead of January.

He’s faced another frustrating year with Tottenham, with injuries limiting his time on the pitch and him not fully convincing Ange Postecoglou either.

Initial reports had indicated he could be open to returning to Brazil to put himself back in the spotlight for the national team.

Fluminense have made their position more than clear, with president Mário Bittencourt admitting they’d expressed formal interest, and Tottenham had made it clear they were open to offers.

That appears to have changed, though, as GE Globo now report that Fluminense met Tottenham on Friday but ‘did not receive a positive response’ that could advance the negotiations.

Tottenham were ‘adamant’ and informed the Tricolor board that they are counting on the striker until the end of the season and that they do not want intend to negotiate about him in January.

Despite this refusal, Fluminense have been informed that there is nothing stopping talks resuming in the future. The belief is that the fact English clubs are in the middle of their season has led Tottenham to their current stance but that could chance.

The Brazilian side, for their part, have made it clear they can make a cash offer or invest in other negotiation models, such as preferential options on their players or loaning player from the youth teams. Tottenham maintained their position and don’t want to talk, however.

The initial idea had been for a loan deal after they made contact with Richarlison and received a positive response, but Tottenham have closed the door completely for now, insisting he is in their plans until the end of the season.
