It’s become increasingly clear in recent months that people close to Luka Jovic have been talking up interest in the player and encouraging stories around the European media about big clubs being interested in signing him.
There’s been leak after leak and the situation has almost certainly been talked into more of a chase than is the reality.
Jovic is currently on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt from Benfica, with the German club having an option to sign the forward permanently. That clause will be used, but Frankfurt can then sell the player on and make a big and quick profit, and that seems to be what the player’s environment are hoping for.
Barcelona are one of the clubs to have been continually linked.
Ernesto Valverde’s side have been looking for options upfront, to provide cover for Luis Suarez and eventually replace the Uruguayan.
Interestingly, they say the word at Barcelona is different from the claims coming from Jovic’s camp. The Catalan club were interested in only a loan, whereas it had been claimed they were prepared to agree to a compulsory purchase clause.
