Even agents read the newspapers.
As you know, Napoli’s Jorginho has attracted a lot of interest from England recently, notably being linked with a move to Manchester City.
However, there have also been rumblings that Manchester United have been interested, something the midfielder’s agent was keen to comment on during an interview with Radio CRC.
The agent revealed he read an article claiming Jorge Mendes was trying to get his client to Old Trafford.
He said, relayed by Calciomercato: “The Napoli players and manager keep getting linked first to one team and then to another, but there is nothing official. I read somewhere that Manchester United have made an offer through Mourinho’s agent, but I don’t know anything about that because no one has called me.”
The only article we could find was one on CalcioNapoli24, published less than an hour before the agent’s quotes were relayed by Calciomercato, claiming that Mendes was getting involved to help Manchester United.
Strangely enough, Corriere dello Sport, in their version of the quotes, forget all about the “I read somewhere that” and make it sound like Jorginho’s agent is aware about the super agent’s attempts to move his client.
They relay it as: “Mendes wants to bring Jorginho to Manchester United, but I don’t know anything because no one has called me.”
Either Joao Santos literally read CalcioNapoli24’s article right before going on air, or he’s stirring the pot nicely by feeding bits and bobs to websites to get the story going.
