Victor Kristiansen joined Leicester City from FC Copenhagen and has been a regular member of Denmark’s national team squad since then.
So far this season the 22-year-old has made 26 appearances for the Foxes. He has a solitary assist to his name during that time, which came against West Ham United in December.
With Leicester City fighting an increasingly doomed-looking battle against regelation, going away with the Danish national team would probably seem like something of a break for the left-back and he will have expected to be called up for the next one given he regularly has been.
However, Brian Riemer, who took over the Denmark job in October has decided to drop the Leicester City defender and choose other options instead.
Riemer has spoken to the Danish media today about his decisions, and specifically Kristiansen being left out this time.
Tipsbladet quote the manager as saying: “It was a bad conversation for me. I think he deserves more. It’s purely a tactical choice in relation to what I want. I don’t want five fullbacks, and tactically the profiles fit into what I want.
“He took it very professionally and like a man. Of course he didn’t agree, but he understood the explanation well.”
The four fullbacks Denmark have chosen are Patrick Dorgu, Mads Roerslev, Rasmus Nissen Kristensen and Joakim Mæhle. The Leicester City player likely has a tough battle ahead to return.
