Before we talk about how strange this rumour is, we admit that it comes out at the right time.
Firstly, because Xavi’s arrival at Barcelona opens the way for several transfer stories to come up, even the most unlikely ones, as the former midfielder is expected to stage a mini-revolution at the Camp Nou side.
And with Cristiano Ronaldo having a tough return to Manchester United, who are now 6th in the Premier League, there’s been claims in the English press saying he could leave Old Trafford for the second time… a lot sooner than expected.
Now as you probably know where we’re going with this, the 36-year-old is indeed being linked with a move to Barcelona. It turns out that’s not something coming only from newspapers, but also from someone who was recently a candidate for the club’s presidency.
Speaking to La Poteria, Toni Freixa was asked if the Catalan side should make an attempt to sign the Red Devils’ star, and ended up agreeing with it.
“If there is a time to do this madness it is now,” said Freixa (via AS).
In his years at Real Madrid, besides having more goals than appearances, Cristiano Ronaldo won two La Ligas and four Champions League titles.
That would alone be a factor to doubt his move to the Camp Nou, although we should also consider that he has nearly two years left on his contract with Manchester United, who’ve been showing on social media that they’re more than happy with his return to Old Trafford.
Freixa may well be just stirring the pot at Barcelona.
