Earlier today, we covered claims from Gazzetta dello Sport regarding AS Roma’s interest in Everton’s Bernard.
The winger, who finds himself on the bench more often than not under Carlo Ancelotti, is reportedly a target of Paulo Fonseca’s, who already managed him at Shakhtar.
The belief from Gazzetta was that Bernard’s price tag was around €15m, but the sale of Robin Olsen, whom the Toffees want to keep permanently, could help lower that fee.
A price of €6-7m was mentioned, and that’s corroborated by Calciomercato on Monday.
The Italian website claim Roma ‘will not sell’ their goalkeeper ‘for less than €5m’, but Bernard could help get the deal over the line.
It’s stated ‘the two clubs are working to find the exchange formula, perhaps with a few million in favour of Everton’.
That would mean Olsen + money for the Brazilian, but the biggest hurdle, as tends to be the case for transfer from the Premier League to Serie A, would be the player’s wages.
It’s stated his €3m post tax + bonuses can’t be supported by Roma ‘unless they are spread on a longer contract’.
So while Bernard might be ‘one of Fonseca’s favourite names’, as stated by Corriere dello Sport, it could all come down to whether or not Roma can find a way to support his wages.
