Earlier today we covered claims from Thursday’s edition of O Jogo, which stated Nuno Tavares will take a Covid-19 test today and if that’s negative he’ll travel to London to go through quarantine and sign for Arsenal.
The Gunners have agreed a fee with Benfica, which sees an initial payment of €8m plus a further €2m in bonus payments. Thursday’s Record explains the bonuses are easily achievable, and therefore the Lisbon club are seeing it as a €10m deal.
Record have some flattery for Arsenal, stating Nuno Tavares isn’t signing for ‘just any club’ in England, but ‘one of the greats’.
However, they then say the fullback ‘will try to prove in London what he couldn’t do in Luz’.
That sounds like a big ask, although the Portuguese U21 international is still only 21-years-of-age and is initially being signed to be a back-up for Mikel Arteta’s side. At €8-10m, that looks a reasonable deal, and it’s been insisted that the Gunners have done in-depth scouting before deciding to take the plunge.
O Jogo believe Nuno Tavares is likely to travel on Friday or Saturday, but Record make things sound more imminent, with a headline naming the player and then saying ‘Today in London’.
