Matt Doherty is ready to make his first game since leaving Tottenham Hotspur, the Spanish media says.
The fullback, who joined Atletico Madrid on a free move from Spurs, is set to be given a chance in the match against Sevilla next weekend.
That’s reported by outlet AS, who says that with Nahuel Molina suspended, Doherty becomes the ‘most logical’ option for Diego Simeone, so ‘it’s time’ for him to make his debut.
The fullback’s last appearance had been in Tottenham’s FA Cup clash against Preston North End, so he’s completing a month without playing before entering the pitch once again.
Doherty has been taken to all of Atletico Madrid’s games lately, but is always staying on the bench and is still to be given a chance to prove himself at his new club.
The Irish fullback only has a contract with the Colchoneros until the end of the season, so that game should be crucial for him to convince the club he’s worth keeping after that.
Tottenham agreed to let him leave for free following the signing of Pedro Porro from Portuguese side Sporting.
