Following the official announcement that Thiago Silva is leaving Chelsea at the end of the season, it seemed like the defender would have an open path to join Fluminense.
The centre-back has been linked with a return to the Brazilian club for a long time, with rumours getting stronger lately, and everything could be on track this time.
However, as TNT Sports today shares an update on the situation, it’s claimed that Silva actually has the chance to leave Chelsea and stay in London.
Journalist Aline Nastari claims that among the clubs who’ve been competing with Fluminense for the signing, the three strongest proposals are from the English capital.
Those sides aren’t mentioned, and it’s hard to guess who they could be.
There are a couple of factors which are said to play in favour and against those moves. The first is that Silva’s wife and kids are expected to stay in England, regardless of where he’ll play next, so signing for one of those clubs would keep him together with his family.
However, besides the player’s wish to play Fluminense, there’s also Chelsea’s rivalry against local clubs. It’s said his relationship with the Blues which could then play against that.
There’s only one certainty about this situation. That is, if Thiago Silva rejects Fluminense for any mid-table club in the Premier League, he shall never be welcomed at the Rio de Janeiro side again.
Their fans have been expecting his return for years and won’t be in a forgiving mood if he decides against it.
