City Group’s investments on the signings of Kayky and Metinho continue getting detailed by the Brazilian press with new information coming up through the week.
Today it’s Globo Esporte who features a piece with some of the reasons why Fluminense decided to let two of their most talented youngsters leave the club so early.
It’s once again claimed that Manchester City is Kayky’s destination, while Metinho is initially being sent to French side Troyes. They’re both completing the moves on 2022.
Just like reported by TNT Sports, Globo Esporte confirms that the City Group are paying €10m plus potential €16m in bonuses for the striker, and €5m plus €8m in bonuses for the midfielder. The Brazilian side are keeping 20% of each player’s future move.
Now what’s new is that Fluminense didn’t want to let the players go. They only decided to make the sale when their agent didn’t take their offer for a contract renewal, as he demanded three times more money.
Even though Shakhtar Donetsk made similar offers for the players, there were counteroffers from the City Group and three other factors which helped them to win the race.
The first was that Kayky preferred the move to Manchester City. The second was the bigger total amount for the two players. And the third was Fluminense’s wish to have a good relationship with the group.
The word in Brazil is that there are more talented youngsters coming from Flu’s youth ranks, so if it’s true they want close ties with the City Group, perhaps we can see more deals like this in the future.
