Former Leeds United goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald has admitted he regrets making the move to Elland Road but couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

Wiedwald joined Leeds in a £450k deal from Werder Bremen in July 2017, but his time in England would not be long.

He would only spend a year with Leeds, making 30 appearances across the 2017/18 campaign and establishing himself as the number one for much of it.

However, he was dropped for the trip to Wolves on the 7th of March and then not seen since, spending three games on the bench before failing to make the squad for the last eight league games of the campaign.

It was that which prompted a move back to German in 2018, with Leeds letting him move to Eintracht Frankfurt on a free transfer.

Wiedwald has bounced from club to club since then, and, looking back, admits it wasn’t the best choice, but one he couldn’t turn down.

“Yes, there were thoughts afterwards,” he told BILD when asked about his departure from Werder.

“Especially since I saw how quickly things can happen in football. Only a few months later, the coach was replaced.

“But I felt no support and had a good offer from Leeds. I don’t want to miss that experience either.”
