Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest are among the clubs in the picture to sign Igor Paixão.
Earlier this month, claims from the Dutch press stated Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and AFC Bournemouth are all interested in Paixão. His father said it has to be a “well-thought” step for him to leave Feyenoord after this season.
At the weekend, the winger showed exactly why Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and other clubs want to sign him in the summer window. He scored a hat-trick and registered two assists in the Eredivisie side’s 6-2 win over FC Twente.
After the tie, he spoke to Voetbal International and 1908.nl have relayed his comments.
The Brazilian has mainly operated as a left winger this season and managed 11 goals and 15 assists from 38 games. He explained there was uncertainty over his involvement against Twente, after missing the Champions League clash against Inter Milan last week.
On his display against Twente, he said: “This was my best match for Feyenoord. Three goals and two assists in one match, I had not yet achieved. It was great playing football, but I could only do that thanks to the help of my teammates and the confidence of the coach.”
His performances have seen the likes of Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and others take notice. The attacker insists he wants to continue focusing on improving his own game.
“I am playing more, I am scoring more, it is indeed going very well. But that doesn’t happen automatically; it is the result of working hard every day and trying to improve yourself. I am grateful that I am able to do that. My selection for the Brazilian team is a highlight. I hope to repeat that in the future,” Paixão explained.
