Watford striker Joshua King has been critical of a summer football event in Norway, that will be attended by Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg.
Norwegian side Rustad Abildsø SK teamed up Oslo Keeperskole AS, a private company, to conduct a two-day goalkeeping workshop in June. The Reds coach is the main ‘attraction’ of the event, which will be attended by 120 kids.
According to VG, each participant will have to pay a fee of 3350 kroner [€344] to take part in the workshop that’s scheduled to take place in the summer. Apart from this fee, the report adds the participants, between the age of 10 and 17, must pay for food and drinks.
The Hornets frontman, who had previously conducted a free workshop for kids in Norway, has slammed the Liverpool goalkeeping coach and the organisers of this event. King is annoyed with the cost that each participant has to bear to attend this event.
“This is pure greed! There’s not an explanation in the world that can make me understand that price for two days,” King told VG.
“120 children and a goalkeeping coach from Liverpool? I think this is a bad signal for developments in Norwegian football. That’s not how you bring out talent.
“Frode Grodås and Erik Thorstvedt attended my football school for free. They did it because they know what the potential can be for young Norwegian talents if they get the opportunity, regardless of their parents’ finances.”
The Watford player is not the only one to be critical of this workshop. With the event already receiving criticism from several sections, including officials from the Norwegian Football Association, it needs to be seen whether the Liverpool goalkeeping coach will change his stance on being part of it.
