With Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva already at the club, you would think that an attacking midfielder would be one of the last things Pep Guardiola needs right now at Manchester City.
However, Marca seem to forget about this altogether on Tuesday when they suggest the Premier League club are the favourites to sign Real Madrid’s Isco in the summer.
The attacking midfielder hasn’t been given much time on the pitch by Zinedine Zidane, and, after playing his first full 90 minutes since the end of October at the weekend, told journalists he might have to make a decision in the summer if he is to play more.
Manchester City are said to be ‘one of the clubs to have shown the most interest’ in the player in recent times, missing out on him in the summer he signed for Real Madrid.
Having previously made two attempts to secure his signature, the Premier League club, with Pep Guardiola now at the helm, are confident this will be third time lucky, especially with his willingness to move to England, an option he prefers to a stay in Spain or a move to Italy with Juventus.
Guardiola is said to be willing to give Isco the time he needs on the pitch to make the move attractive enough for the attacking midfielder, even if Chelsea are said to have already made contact with an intermediary about a possible transfer.
With a contract running out in 2018, everything is aligned for this summer to be Isco’s last at the Bernabeú, having rejected a new Real Madrid contract last year.
Now he just needs to decide where he’ll end up, because we’re pretty confident he won’t be short of offers.
