On September 2nd, Oscar Bobb made his first team debut for Manchester City when he came off the bench in their 5-1 victory over Fulham.
Since then, the 20-year-old has made four more appearances, including one start in the Citizens’ 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United in the EFL Cup. His recent performances have helped him earn a first call-up from Norway for this month’s international break.
Earlier today, Norway manager Ståle Solbakken announced the squad for the two matches against Cyprus and Spain, and explained the reason for picking the Manchester City player, during an interview with TV2.
“We think he is good enough, and can come in both as a creative force as an inside runner or winger. He can play from the start or come in and change the game. He has shown himself to be a mature player in the matches against Wolves and Newcastle,” he said.
Nettavisen have also relayed quotes made by the national team manager about Bobb, and he indicated the Manchester City youngster has shown enough to even start for Norway.
“It’s not inconceivable that he plays from the start or comes in. He is relevant for the eleven. It’s about finding the balance in this,” Solbakken said.
Nettavisen had also asked Solbakken if he had a chance to speak to Pep Guardiola about his latest pick for Norway.
Responding to that, he said: “I haven’t spoken to Guardiola, but I expect that he is satisfied with the development, otherwise he would not have given him chances.”
Bobb has made eight appearances for Norway U21, scoring two goals and registering two assists in the process.
