Earlier this month, we covered claims from Germany that Newcastle United and Aston Villa are in the picture to sign 1. FSV Mainz 05’s Brajan Gruda. It was also stated the Bundesliga side want €50m for their star.
Bild have a report on Mainz’s plans for the 20-year-old’s future, and Newcastle and Aston Villa are mentioned.
It’s claimed ‘things could get serious’ with the winger’s transfer and perhaps ‘happen very quickly’.
Bild point out André Schürrle left the German club for Bayer Leverkusen in 2011, a year after the two clubs agreed a deal, and Mainz are looking for a similar deal for Gruda in the summer window.
Bayern Munich have already held talks to sign the winger. They will face competition from Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund and VfB Stuttgart. Newcastle and Aston villa are also interested, and all these clubs are ‘wooing’ him.
The report relays Kicker’s earlier claim that Mainz are thinking of selling Gruda this summer, but having him back on loan for one season. This would help him continue his development.
Bild also spoke to Mainz director Christian Heidel, who claims his side would only consider selling the German if there’s a “truly exceptional offer”.
It’s not clear whether Newcastle and Aston Villa are willing to make an exceptional offer to sign Gruda this summer.
