Unless you’ve been living under the largest rock ever existed, you’ll be aware of Arsenal’s decision to join 11 other clubs in setting up a Super League.
The move has been widely panned, but it appears to be happening whether we like it or not, at least for now, and among those criticising it is Emmanuel Petit, widely seen as a Gunners legend following his time at Highbury.
Now a pundit for French TV and radio, the former footballer was asked about this new Super League on RMC Sport, and he didn’t hold back in the slightest, much like his contemporaries in Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher on this side of the Channel.
He said: “These days, they’re trying to kill football. If you add to this VAR, which kills the emotion and take away the fans, like has been the case for a year now, today [the Super League] is the cherry on the cake. They’re truly gunning down football”.
🎙 "Aujourd'hui, on privilégie l'objectif financier au détriment de l'objectif sportif. Ils nous flinguent le football !"

Petit also added that those in the football business are now choosing the ‘priority of financial objectives over the sporting objectives’.
And that is essentially what the Super League is all about.
We’re still in the early days of this, but with so many fans, former (and current) players, managers and other clubs angry at this move, it remains to be seen what the final result will be.
