Daryl Janmaat has probably given the most informative of the interviews being dished out out by Watford players this week.
With most being mainly questioned on Elton John and whether Watford can do a Leicester, Janmaat spoke to Dutch newspaper AD about other issues around the club and his own football career.
After explaining that the Hornets’ managerial approach (sacking them quickly) isn’t ideal, and going over the Pozzo business plan, Janmaat moved on to talking about a potential exit from the Premier League club.
AD report Feyenoord were interested in taking the player back, but it didn’t come to a concrete offer. Janmaat explained why things didn’t get off the ground: “Watford would not let me go. If it stalls there, it is difficult to talk further. Feyenoord also didn’t have the money. You cannot arrive at Watford with nothing. They are not stupid.”
With it being claimed returning to the Eredivisie club is still a ‘dream’ for the defender, Janmaat then added: “I had a good time there, I’m a Feyenoord supporter. If that opportunity comes, I would like to take it. It just seems nice to come back when I am still fit; so I can help the club. I am only 29, so I have a little time. In any case, we know each other.”
The Watford player has a contract lasting until June 2020, so if there’s no extension, a transfer may be affordable for Feyenoord next summer.
