Incoming Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim has admitted he is preparing himself to dela with the press once he arrives at Old Trafford.
Mais Futebol cover comments from the Sporting Club de Portugal manager today in which he admits he knows the English press will be gunning for him from day one.
The Portuguese coach is set to take charge of Manchester United next week after being appointed as Erik ten Hag’s successor a week ago.
He’ll have two weeks of relative calm to get underway thanks to the international break, before taking on Ipswich Town in his first game.
The spotlight has been firmly on him thanks to Manchester United’s move to secure his signature, with the club still one of the biggest in the world despite their struggles in recent years.
That’s also seen him clashing with the English press, with one journalist criticised this week for his pushy approach during a press conference in Portugal.
That was perhaps a taste of what is to come for Amorim, who it seems is well aware of the added pressures that come from the press when you are Manchester United manager.
“Yes, I’m prepared. Obviously, the speech won’t be so… I’ll have to think about the words. I’ll have a lot more difficulty,” he said.
“I won’t be able to say…This conference I had there will be much more basic. But everyone says that, living there, a person learns very fast. But obviously I’ll have a lot more difficulty.
“I’ll have to be smart and approach the… Go slowly. Even because the press is different. They’re always waiting. It’s an exception for everyone, it’s the club that is most talked about there. I’m aware of that. But I won’t have many problems. If they’re going to say good or bad. You know how it is.
“What matters is winning the games. I’m prepared, but I know I’ll have difficulty at the beginning. But it’s not the biggest problem I have thinking about the next challenge. I don’t think it’s a big problem.”
