Despite Chelsea’s 1-0 over Al Hilal in the Club World Cup semifinal on Wednesday, the Blues didn’t really have a very convincing performance.
Conceding several chances for the Saudi side to find an equaliser, Thomas Tuchel side only did the necessary to win the game and get to the tournament’s final.
Chelsea are now set to face Copa Libertadores champions Palmeiras on Saturday, and it turns out that the Blues’ game against Al-Hilal is a reason for the Brazilian media to believe that the Verdão can actually win on Saturday.
Live on Band TV, pundit João Paulo Cappellanes warned the Stamford Bridge side that they may be ‘run over’ in the final in case they continue play like that.
“Such an important tournament, the Club World Cup, and it was kind of weird, like someone who doesn’t want anything, with the feeling that ‘we’ll go there soon and score a goal’. But against Palmeiras, it’s good for Chelsea to be worried,” said Cappellanes.
“If they play against Palmeiras the way they played yesterday, they’ll be run over by the greens.”
Chelsea defender Thiago Silva, however, seems to be pretty unsatisfied with that kind of speech.
Speaking to the Brazilian media after the game, the player made it clear that the Blues are in this tournament to win the trophy, dismissing any claims that European sides do not care about the Club World Cup.
