Manchester City and Pep Guardiola have revolutionised how football is played in many ways, and for many clubs there is a constant attempt to replicate their approach.
It requires players who can play a certain way and it is fairly natural for a lot of City stars to be seen as inspiration by others elsewhere.
Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso has revealed that while he admires a certain Manchester City player, but it is rather surprising that the player in question is 19-year-old Rico Lewis.
In a chat with Correire dello Sport, the Italy international was asked about the players he looks up to and enjoys the most.
He said: “I grew up with the myth of Cancelo , but I never stopped taking inspiration from the good ones. Today I adore Zinchenko, Rico Lewis and Calafiori.”
Lewis and Joao Cancelo weren’t the only City-associated players that Cambiaso spoke of. He was also asked about the most dangerous opponents he’s come across and mentioned Jeremy Doku.
“Uh, so many. But if I think back to Barcola and Doku they’ll put me in the hospital.”
One reason he admires Lewis is the similarity in approach. Like the teenager, the Italian has emerged as someone who inverts regularly in midfield, having started off as a defender.
The ex-Genoa man has become a key player for Juve due to these abilities and if things keep going the way they are, he might be someone who fits right into City’s set-up too.
