Newcastle United looked at Napoli star Victor Osimhen to bolster their attack in January, but a deal wasn’t carried out and he will finish the season with the Serie A side.
With a huge financial backing from their owners, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the Magpies are expected to invest big in the next window.
The Nigeria international, who has 13 goals and four assists to his name from 24 matches in all competitions this season, is likely to again be on the Tyneside club’s agenda.
According to Sky Italia journalist Mario Giunta, Eddie Howe’s side could return for the 23-year-old in the summer. He made these claims while talking to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, as relayed by CalcioNapoli24.
“Assault for Osimhen? I totally lose my head for him, I have fought several times from a football and fantasy football point of view (laughs). If we expect Benzema, we are wrong!” Giunta said.
“There were a few bites from the Premier League for Osimhen. There was Newcastle’s interest in January and I don’t rule out that they can return to office in the summer.
“The strength they can put on Napoli’s plate is great. One could reason about a possible sale only in front of an offer that few can afford. I think Osimhen will stay at Napoli next season.”
Giunta made these claims less than a day after he told Radio Goal he expects Osimhen to continue at the Naples club next season, even if Newcastle were to make an approach for him in the summer window.
